What are the characteristics of Iranian saffron?

Saffron is one of the most important export products of Iran that many countries around the world are importing it.

Iranian Saffron

Iran’s Saffron is famous for its medicinal benefits.

Like all export products, exported saffron also has excellent features that are better promoted.

Iran’s Saffron Position in the world

Iran has the 98% of the market share of Saffron market in the global market.
Iran's exported saffron has attracted many domestic and foreign customers due to its special color, aroma and taste.

Characteristics of Iranian saffron

The remarkable thing about the exported saffron in Iran is the very small amount of Safranal compared to other saffron available in the world market.

As it is known to many, some manufacturers of saffron add some essential oil (the most important of which is Safranal) to the aroma of saffron, while Safranal in Iranian exported saffron sometimes only has up to 5% in the saffron, causing high coloring power, its bitter-sweet fragrance, to remain natural and of excellent quality.

What makes Iran’s Saffron stand out among other products, and also distinguishes Iranian saffron with other saffron-producing countries, is the climate and farmland of South Khorasan, especially Qaynat.

Because the best land and climate for saffron cultivation is due to the altitude factor above sea level, the higher the elevation, the better the land for saffron cultivation.

The best altitude for saffron cultivation is about 2 to 5 meters above sea level.

The nature of this plant is consistent with subtropical regions, so for its best growth and reproduction it should be cultivated in areas with mild winters and summers warm and dry.

The situation that is common in most parts of South Khorasan and especially in the city of Qaynat.

Most farmers in this area are cultivating saffron.

Very low Safranal in Iranian saffron

Iranian saffron has this unique feature compared to other saffron available in the world market, which uses Safranal, a toxic substance, in very small quantities.

The higher the amount of Safranal in a saffron, the greater the likelihood of severe poisoning, so this feature alone makes Iran's saffron stand out among its other competitors in the world.

Types of exported saffron

Super Negin Saffron, which has no yellow or white parts, consisting only of stigmas, is the best exported saffron and has the largest customer base in the world;
Subsequently, Sargol and Negin saffron, which is composed of 70% stigma and 30% bund, respectively, and Negin export saffron, which are in 4 branches and completely stigma, have more sales positions.
